Adolescents

Teenage GirlIs your teen or young adult experiencing difficulties that you have not been able to resolve on your own? A  major developmental task of adolescence is to separate from parents, and this is one reason why there is often so much friction between teens and parents at this stage.  The compliant child you knew just a few years ago may have suddenly become a rebellious teenager regardless of all your efforts to be a good parent!

The bad news is that our teens and young adults face a much more dangerous and complex world than previous generations, and it can become very difficult to cope.

The good news is that teens and young adults today are much more receptive to the idea of counseling than even a decade ago. Many of my teen clients even ask their parents to bring them to counseling. As a parent myself, I know that there is nothing more frightening and frustrating than having your child shut you out during difficult times. It can be reassuring—and sometimes even lifesaving—to have your child speak with a responsible mature professional.

Your child can often hear me when he or she has turned a deaf ear to you. With your values in mind, I can help guide your child through what is the most tumultuous growth period of life. Whether your family is conservative or liberal, I am adept at repairing and strengthening the bonds and relationships of families with their teenagers. I have successfully worked with families of all faiths.

“I can’t believe the changes my 17-year old daughter has made since beginning counseling with Kathleen. Her attitude
and grades have improved measurably.  We are even able to enjoy each other’s company now.”

“Our son has gained so much from his work with Kathleen. Things were out of control when we sought help for our
13-year-old son who was having temper outbursts and refusing to listen most of the time. We were at our wits end.
Kathleen became a bridge between us and helped us to begin to work together again in a way that I never dreamed
possible. We are ever so grateful for her invaluable help.”
